Claude Monet (1840-1928)
Claude Monet was a leader of the Impressionistsand in fact, the movement
was named after one of his paintings, called Impression: Sunrise.
Monet
took his paints and canvases into the field to paint directly from nature. He
wanted to capture the momentary effects of color and light in his paintings.
He created several series of paintings, in which he painted the same subject
(a cathedral, haystacks, etc.) many times to capture the effects of sunlight
and the seasons.
