A Lifetime of Color: Study Art

Marsden Hartley
Marsden Hartley (1877-1943) was an American painter who traveled around Europe and America for most of his life. Growing up in Maine, he had a love of nature that is reflected in his many landscapes. He painted many portraits and memorials of people important to him during his life, such as the writer Gertrude Stein.

Paintings by Pablo Picasso and Paul Cezanne inspired Hartley to experiment with abstract art including many still lifes. Hartley was a master of 20th century painting.

Examples of Marsden Hartley's works may be found at: Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota
